Country Road, Autumn Fog and Foliage in Connecticut

This morning I awakened to a sight I rarely see. Milder-than-usual temperatures hastened the onset of dense fog here in Connecticut. I was awed by how the gold and red autumn foliage seemed to shimmer in the morning.

For those of us who have called this part of America home for centuries, this is an auspicious time like none other. Autumn brings a unique magic all its own. Beholding the change of seasons and the magnificent colors displays is enough to leave anyone speechless. I was amazed to notice that the grey skies seemed to accentuate the bursts of color around me.

All I could do was wander, gaze and take it all in.

"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns." George Elliot

"I trust in nature for the stable laws of beauty and utility. Spring shall plant and autumn garner to the end of time."
Robert Browning

"I saw old Autumn in the misty morn stand shadowless like silence, listening to silence."
Thomas Hood

“How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days.”
John Burroughs

“Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.”  William Cullen Bryant

"Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree."
Emily Bronte

"No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face."
John Donne
